The Warrior makes his name in battles, triumphs, and conquests. But he is defined by the work he does in peacetime. When no one is looking, when there is no enemy on the horizon- this is when the true Warrior is made. The Warrior Path has very little to do with war and killing. The warrior rarely kills… The warrior trains.
The real war is internal. A warrior mindset is what is needed to defeat the real enemy at peacetime: The shadow self. The inert, dark, and weak parts of you.
How to defeat the enemy in peacetime? - Self-mastery
1. honesty with yourself
2. putting the blame and responsibility on yourself for the things in your life – true or not
3. working hard to try and learn new things that work well, and unlearn bad things that don’t work well
4. reset every day and try to improve every day
Obtain high control of your faculties:
1. Thoughts 2. Emotions 3. Actions
- This is best done with repetitive self-examination- asking yourself questions about the things you are thinking, feeling, and doing – finding the reason and causal factors
Maintaining and sharpening the tools you wield – The human body and mind
- cutting out the addictions: alcohol, weed, and cigarettes
- breaking the bad eating and drinking habits
1. least processed
2. highest nutrient content – organic fruits and vegetables (highest nutrient concentration)
3. Least chemicals and pesticides
4. organic matter, not animal flesh (meat makes you inert and lethargic = tired)
Physical skills
1. hand-eye coordination
2. stamina and conditioning
3. muscular strength and endurance
Mental skills
1. concentration and focus
2. dissociation
3. memory (remember pain, don’t be the one who has to learn the same lesson more than once)
The essence of a Warrior’s victory in peacetime is internal stillness. The world is structured in a way that pulls us in a million different directions. Mastery and actualization is possible through beginning these small acts of self-work, and carrying out those tasks to completion. This creates the feedback loop that enables greater victories to be achieved.
In this world, we have enemies we will never see
- the advertisers and fast food corporations want us weak and unhealthy
- the pharmaceutical companies want us sick and unhealthy
- the biggest enemy – ourselves – is the part that is attached to comfort and afraid of change
These are the enemies at peacetime, and how we deal with those enemies is what truly defines the warrior
